-After a strong start these past two weeks the team will now pause for the MHSAA mandated Dead Week. Coach Elsey will not meet/communicate with athletes during this time. More info on the Dead Week can be found on the MHSAA website.
-After Dead Week we have our second singlet track trail and the Kensington Camp. We will carpool from BHS at 7:30 for the Milford Trail. These single track trails are ideal for athletes capable of maintaining contact with the main group and athletes that have run 6 or more miles without stopping on several occasions. The annual Kensington Camp is the following day and is a great event for everyone interested in running cross country in the fall. We will meet at 11:00 at/near the North Martindale Picnic Shelter (by the Splash n Blast at Martindale Beach).
-A quick word on iron. Now is an excellent time to get a baseline for blood iron levels (and ferritin levels) with the season still young and the athletes still feeling relatively fresh. Iron levels vary widely from person to person and without an accurate baseline it becomes difficult to determine if blood iron levels are an area of concern if an athlete is feeling significant fatigue and/or underwhelming race performances. This especially important for our junior/senior athletes with high training volumes. The USOC Iron Factsheet and Runner's World - Ironing Out the Details articles are good starting points for more information on iron.
-Have a great 4th of July!
