Off-Season Updates - 2-3-23

-Our BXC athletes have continued working hard throughout the winter and are excited for the Outdoor season just around the corner! All BXC athletes not participating in a winter sport are strongly encouraged to train with their teammates these last few weeks before the spring sport season begins.

-During this time of increased training, the importance of proper nutrition and rest cannot be overstated. The Athlete's Plate and MSU Spartan Nutrition documents are excellent resources on how to properly fuel high level athletes. Athletes that under fuel and/or under recover run the risk of developing a number of debilitating health conditions. Two of the more common conditions in endurance athletes are low iron and relative energy deficiency in sports (RED-S). The What Is Ferritin doc and outofthered-s.com website provide insight on the impact, symptoms, and treatment of these conditions. If untreated, these conditions can be more mentally/emotionally devastating than any physical injury. Proper eating and sleeping habits greatly reduces the risk of developing these conditions and improves the chances of having an excellent season.

-BHS Track and Field will be hosting 5 meets this April. The program needs volunteers in the field events and concessions to run a smooth meet that can be enjoyed by all. These volunteer opportunities are a great way for families and alumni looking for a way to give back. A sign up genius will be posted soon.

-The 2023 TENTATIVE Summer Calendar is linked here. If you have flexibility with your time off, the best time to travel (from a coaches perspective) is during/prior to the Summer Dead Period or during the first week of August. Traveling during these times help ensure runners get the most out of their summer BXC experience.

-Good luck to all our BXC athletes competing in their winter sports!
