-The outdoor track and field season is just a few weeks away! The consistent efforts of our athletes this winter will pay off in the spring and fall. All runners that are not participating in a winter sport are highly encouraged to attend our optional off-season workouts.
-We're looking for athlete volunteers to help out with the Mother/Son and Daddy/Daughter Sweetheart Dances on February 20th and 21st. This is an excellent way to give back to the community at a popular family event. Sign Up Genius Link
-BHS T&F will be hosting four meets this season. The program needs volunteers in the field events and concessions to run a smooth meet that can be enjoyed by all. These volunteer opportunities are a great way for families and alumni to give back to the program. A sign up genius will be posted soon.
-With the start of a new season approaching all BXC runners that have trained consistently throughout the fall and winter should consider getting their Hemoglobin and Ferritin (blood iron stores) levels checked. Runners with excellent diets should still get checked periodically if they've been engaging in consistent quality training over several months. This is especially true if an athlete's performance doesn't correlate with the amount of training put into the season. What Is Ferritin by Dr. Kornoelje explains the importance of iron, the nuance of low ferritin levels, and a plan for checking and treating iron related issues. Dr. Jack Daniels, When Runners Should Get Blood Work explains when to get tested, the importance of hemoglobin, and why too much hemoglobin can be bad. Endurance athletes trying to compete at high levels should have an idea of their hemoglobin and ferritin numbers.
-The Tentative 2026 Summer Calendar is updated. The Middle School XC Camp has been shifted to the week of July 20th.
-Good luck to our winter sport athletes!
