-The 2026 BHS Track and Field is in the books. We sent nine athletes to the State Championships and came away with All-State performances in the 4x800m relay and 800m run! Complete results are posted on athletic.net. This is the third consecutive year our 4x800m relay has run under 7:55 and earned All-State. Our athletes success is directly related to their willingness to train hard together during the off-season.

-We have a couple of meetings this upcoming Tuesday, June 9th

-There is a quick informational meeting at 2:30 p.m. in the Collab Lab (D32/34) for new and returning BXC athletes. The meeting will likely last 10-15 minutes.

-Our BXC New Parent Meeting is at 6 p.m. in the BHS Steam Center. We'll discuss opportunities available to athletes, expectations of the program, and answer any questions.

-We were able to sign up thirteen athletes at our SMS lunch visit on May 27th. Here's the incoming 9th grade info packet and the incoming 9th grade sign up. Our captains will be reaching out to our incoming freshmen when the school year ends. Hopefully we get a few more sign ups!

-There's an opportunity for BXC athletes to receive a free gate screening at Agate Core Therapy in downtown Brighton with Dr./Mrs. Elsey on June 20th and 27th. Sessions are available on a first come first serve basis. More details are available on the 3D Gait Analysis Sign Up Genius.

-All BXC runners that have trained consistently over the previous months/years should consider getting their Hemoglobin and Ferritin (blood iron stores) levels checked. Runners with excellent diets should still get checked periodically if they've been engaging in consistent quality training for any extended period of time. This is especially true if an athlete's performance doesn't correlate with the amount of training put into the season. What Is Ferritin by Dr. Kornoelje explains the importance of iron, the nuance of low ferritin levels, and a plan for checking and treating iron related issues. Dr. Jack Daniels, When Runners Should Get Blood Work explains when to get tested, the importance of hemoglobin, and why too much hemoglobin can be bad. Endurance athletes trying to compete at high levels should have an idea of their hemoglobin and ferritin numbers.

-Friendly reminder to schedule a physical for the fall. Every athlete competing in an MHSAA sport during the 26/27 school year must have a physical completed on/after April 15th 2026. Once completed, the physical form must be uploaded to Final Forms.

-Once the 2026 school year officially ends, families/athletes will need to sign up on Final Forms to join the BHS Cross Country team for the 2026 XC season.
